What is the regular maintenance for a chlorine pool?

Run the pump a minimum of 10 - 12 hours per day to ensure adequate filtration and circulation.

Twice a week

  1. Test pH and the free chlorine residual. Maintain 1 - 4 ppm free available chlorine and 7.4 - 7.6 ppm pH. Adjust as needed.
  2. Refill automatic feeder, skimmer basket or floater with SilkGuard® Complete® Sticks or SilkGuard® Complete® Tabs. Do not allow your feed system to become empty of sticks or tablets before refilling them. Keep them filled. Note: In warmer temperatures or with high bather load, you may need to check more often than twice a week.

Weekly

  1. Add 1 lb. of Smart Shock® per 12,000 gallons to remove undesirable compounds and keep the water sparkling clear.
  2. Add 1.5 oz. of Algae Complete®, Back Up® 2, or Banish® per 10,000 gallons
or 3 oz. of Algae All 60® per 10,000 gallons

Once a month

Perform a complete water analysis and balance according to ALEX Pro® recommendations.

As needed

  • Check to make sure your skimmer, floater or feeder does not need additional sanitizer.
  • Brush and vacuum the pool, and empty skimmer and pump baskets.
  • Backwash the filter.
  • Chemically clean the filter with Strip Kwik® and Kleen It® mid-season.
