How do solar pool heaters work?

Solar pool heaters utilize solar collectors to capture sunlight and warm pool water. The pool's pump circulates the water through these collectors, where it's heated before returning to the pool.

Solar pool heaters operate using a straightforward yet effective mechanism to harness solar energy. The process involves:

  1. Solar Collectors: These are panels placed typically on rooftops or other sunny areas. Pool water is circulated through these collectors.

  2. Water Circulation: The pool's pump circulates water through the filter and then through the solar collector. In the collector, the water is heated by the sun's rays.

  3. Returning Water to the Pool: Once heated, the water is channeled back into the pool, raising its temperature.

  4. Valve and Controller: Some systems use a valve and controller. When the collector temperature is sufficiently warmer than the pool, the valve diverts water through the collector. If the collector is cooler, water bypasses it, flowing directly back to the pool.
