Installation and site prep
Do I need a permit to install a hot tub in Ohio? +
It depends on your municipality. In Mansfield and most Richland County jurisdictions, hot tubs require an electrical permit (for the 230V subpanel) but not a building permit. If you're installing on a new deck or building a fenced enclosure around the spa, those may need separate permits. We can pull permits for you or point you to the right office.
Will my deck hold a hot tub? +
A filled Highlife® spa weighs roughly 3,000–5,800 lbs depending on model — before passengers. Most residential decks built to current Ohio code hold 40 lbs/sq ft, which is enough for a Grandee® (about 90 lbs/sq ft distributed load) only if the deck was engineered for it. Older decks or covered porches typically need reinforcement. Send us your deck's construction details and we'll tell you if it needs additional joist support or a poured pad underneath.
What's the minimum gate width to deliver a spa? +
42 inches for most Highlife models. If your gate is narrower, we crane the spa over the fence — adds cost but works for almost any situation.
Electrical
Can I plug it into a regular outlet? +
Only the Jetsetter® (115V plug-and-play) works with a standard outlet. Every other Highlife needs a dedicated 230V, 50-amp GFCI subpanel installed by a licensed electrician. We quote the electrical alongside the spa so there's no second surprise.
How much does the electrical work cost? +
Typical range: $1,000–$2,000 for a standard install where the subpanel is within 30 feet of your existing panel. Long runs, buried conduit, or older panels needing upgrade can push this higher. We give you a real number, not "as low as."
Delivery, cost, warranty, water care
How long from order to delivery? +
2–3 weeks for in-stock Highlife models. 4–8 weeks for custom colorways or special orders. Freeflow spas are typically in stock and can install in under a week.
Is delivery included? +
Yes — delivery and placement are included within 50 miles of our Mansfield showroom, along with filling the spa and start-up training with your service tech. If your access requires a crane, we quote that alongside your order.
How much does it cost to run per month? +
About $50–65/month in electricity for a Highlife spa in Ohio, kept at 100°F year-round with typical use. Plus chemicals (roughly $15–20/month), filter replacements (every 12–18 months, $60), and water changes (twice a year with the salt system, ~$20). See the collection pages for the full breakdown.
How often do I have to change the water? +
Up to 12 months between changes with the FreshWater® Salt System. Chlorine or bromine spas: every 3–4 months.
What chemicals do I need to keep on hand? +
Sanitizer (varies by system), pH up / pH down, alkalinity increaser, weekly non-chlorine shock, filter cleaner. A starter kit runs about $75; ongoing chemistry is $15–20/month.
What's covered under warranty? +
Highlife spas: 7 years on the shell (no-leak guarantee), 5 years on plumbing and components, 5 years on the No-Fault® heater (covered even if failure was homeowner error), 5 years on the Everwood® HD cabinet, and 2 years on labor.
If something breaks, who fixes it? +
Fun Center's factory-trained technicians handle every Hot Spring warranty repair in-house. You call us at (419) 756-1300 and we come out. You won't be routed to a national call center or a third-party repair marketplace.
Is chlorine or salt better? +
Neither is universally better — see our Hot Tub Water Care page for the trade-off breakdown. Most Fun Center owners land on salt for the lower ongoing maintenance.
Can I use my regular household chemicals? +
No. Pool chlorine is often too concentrated for spa-scale dosing, and detergents/soaps foam spa water. Use spa-specific products only.
